Abstract: There are several different possibilities to change the trajectory of a space vehicle. One of the most modern engine is ion propulsion. It is expected that, to leave Earth, engines based on chemical propulsion will be used in the near future, with solar electric propulsion (SEP) making other maneuvers of the mission. This paper considers that an optimization of maneuvers will be performed in interplanetary missions using solar electric propulsion and Gravity Assisted Maneuver to try to reduce the costs of the mission. Usining the high specific impulse and the capacity of the electric propulsion to lead the spacecraft into a Gravity Assisted Maneuver with the Earth after a year of the departure of the spacecraft. Missions using the thrusters PPS1350 and the Phall 1 will be simulated for performance comparison. An indirect optimization method will be used in the simulations.
