Abstract: In recent years, the interest of renewable energy resources and brushless machines have been found a great interest from scientists and researchers. One of the most important renewable energy resources is the wind energy. Different generator types such as a squirrel cage induction generator, permanent magnet synchronous generator and doubly fed generators are studied in wind applications. All these generators require a fixed speed turbine or require power electronic converters with variable speed turbines which add to the system complexity. This paper presents an experimental study on a new mixed pole, constant frequency and brushless generator. The proposed generator gives a three-phase sinusoidal voltage waveform with a constant frequency whatever its rotor speed without the need for any controllers or power electronics so that it can be used with variable speed wind turbines in the remote isolated areas as it doesn't need maintenance.
