Abstract: Among the energy expenses for a building, the lighting system can contribute up to 50% of the total electrical consumption, and especially large quantities of energy are used in schools and office buildings. One possible method to reduce such consumption is to exploit solar, or natural, light. Through natural light, it is possible to illuminate indoor environments while maintaining appropriate illuminance levels necessary for indoor activities. Indeed, it is a mistake to search for the maximum energy savings, if this creates a possible disturbance to a person's visual health in the office. Moreover, it is important to highlight that the light quantity is not enough to evaluate the working comfort; the light quality must also be held in consideration. Therefore, for optimal energy savings, the most favorable combination of the elimination of energy waste, the light quality, and the light quantity must be assessed.
