Abstract: Optical properties of glazings for window applications serve as input data for the assessment of visual and thermal comfort in buildings. Large amount of advanced glazings are available nowadays. Some special glasses have ability to filter ultraviolet or infrared part of solar radiation, others reduce transmittance of visible light or on the other hand antireflective glazings can increase transmittance for visible radiation. There are also glasses highly reflective for long-wave IR radiation – so called „infrared or heat mirrors". These glasses belong into the main group of glasses recommended for architectural purposes generally called as low-emissivity glazings. This paper topic is aimed at the classification of low-emissivity glasses and the comparison of their properties with ordinary glass transmittance and reflectance.
Keywords: Glazings for window applications, light transmittance and reflectance, solar transmittance and reflectance, visible radiation, daylighting, wavelength, glass coatings, low-emissivity glazings, solar radiation, thermal comfort in buildings.
