Abstract: A formulation and algorithm treatment of a tire road friction estimator while hard braking is presented. The over all method is aimed to provide the driver with tire road friction information during hard braking conditions with using Sliding mode ABS control and only standard sensors. A Recursive Least Square (RLS) filter is applied to a physical model of tire road friction based on the so called wheel slip to get a simultaneous accurate estimate and fast response to friction changes. This filter examined and Evaluated in a vehicle model using Matlab/Simulink
