Abstract: Disease diagnosis and treatment through gene expression analysis have become a widely used technique for genetecists around the world. Gene expression analysis can be done using DNA microarrays, which are based on the hybridization of a tissue's DNA sequence into a substrate and the further processing of the image conformed by the genes as green, red or yellow spots. The DNA microarray image processing involves, finding the location of the spots and the quantification of their expression level. This paper dicusses the steps needed to perform DNA microarray image analysis, such as: the spot addressing, spot segmentation and gene information extraction. Likewise, a tool that performs DNA microarray image analysis through the locations of the spots, based on the image projections and the identification of the spot signal using contour based segmentation, is described.
