Abstract: In this paper, a trade-off between noise reduction and the preservation of actual image features has been made in a way that enhances the diagnostically relevant image content. Data is transformed into the wavelet basis. In this, large coefficients are mainly the signals and the smaller ones represent noise. By suitably modifying these coefficients, the noise has been efficiently removed from the data. In this paper, a wavelet based sub-band filtering method has been applied to enhance the micro calcifications present in digital mammograms by inhibiting noise. In this thesis work, we have used wavelet transforms to denoise the medical images. Quantitative evaluation of various image restoration method has been done based on quantitative ratios such as CII, contrast enhancement index etc. Results as obtained in this case demonstrate that the proposed method improves the quality of the image more than the other enhancement methods.
