Abstract: - The aim of this study is design and fabricate a direct-driven Surface Mounted Permanent Magnet motor to be replace with an induction motor and its gearbox for an propulsion application requiring 300 W and 220 rpm. This work presents a suitable method for direct motor drive design. The proposed motor is a 24-pole, 36-slot brushless DC motor whose rotor with rare earth magnets to realize an inner rotor direct drive motor. The design and optimization of the motor was done with the aid of finite element Magnetostatic and Transient field analysis using the Maxwell 2D Simulator software. The results of simulation were compared with the results of fabricate prototype motor. The calculated results were in good agreement with experimental results.
