Abstract: - In this article, the design and simulation study of a modified low profile Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) are presented. The UMTS DRA studied by Zainud-Deen et al. [5] has been modified to make it a low profile antenna for mobile phone applications. The simulation results for the return loss, input impedance and radiation pattern of the UMTS DRA and the specific absorption rate (SAR) distribution in the human head model due to the antenna placed on a conducting box acting as mobile handset, which is surrounded by hand model are reported. The simulation results for radiation characteristics of a rectangular DRA structure formed by gluing together five rectangular alumina disks are compared with experimental results. The results are found nearly in agreement with each other.
