Abstract: This paper describes broadband two stage amplifier design using a general method for radio frequency and microwave circuit design. In this method, the circuit is divided into sub-networks or blocks instead of unit elements as in the conventional network synthesis methods. The S parameters of each block are calculated using optimization then, physical networks or structures with specific passband characteristics are used to replace the sub-networks using S parameters fitting. Unlike the conventional network synthesis methods, the first stage design of the general method can take into account all the discontinuities and parasitic effects in the circuit. Then interactive analysis and optimization of the entire circuit are performed. The general method can be used to design multiport networks with any number of ports and can also be used to synthesize lumped and distributed matching networks.
