Abstract: Abstract- Most of the household electronic products and office equipment circuitry are designed to plug directly into wall outlets and draw 120 or 240 volts of alternating current (AC), internally they operate at a much lower DC voltage. The AC to DC conversion is performed by devices called power supplies. As most of the domestic electrical and electronic appliances require power supplies to operate, their efficient functioning is of serious concern to the energy efficiency community. A vast majority of the end users consume excess energy owing to the use of inefficient, bulky and outdated power supply systems. Hence there is a great scope for energy saving in this area. In this paper an overview of the power supply energy consumption pattern and the effects of different operation modes on the system overall power consumption is presented with adequate recommendations to achieve energy efficiency.
