Abstract: Using examples from the educational activity developed in the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, the paper presents the student participation mechanisms and structures at academic level that offer real opportunities in learning and teaching. It also describes the academic transformation towards a democratic learning environment, with a participative management, flexible curriculum offers, and a modern, democratic organizational culture. Discussing the fact that the introducing of ICT in education is a significant investment for the future, the paper shows the impact of the instructional strategies assisted by computer on the achievement of learning objectives.
