Abstract: China¡¯s newly built buildings were the most in the world in recent years, therefore energy consumption related to buildings is significant. And this contributes to significant greenhouse gas emissions. China is undergoing urbanization and on an unprecedented scale, about 200 millions people will move to cities in China in the future. They need more building and more infrastructural facilities. Based on the theory of Life-Cycle Energy Analysis, the energy consumption of macro-level buildings system in China was analyzed, and the key factors in every Life-Cycle phase were pointed out. With the analysis of building life-cycle energy consumption, carbon dioxide emissions related to buildings were calculated. It was indicated that the energy consumptions of building materials production and building operation account for largest share in building energy consumption. China needs to lengthen the lifespan of buildings, improve the energy efficiency and apply clean energy !
in more industries to reduce energy consumption and mitigate carbon dioxide emissions.
