Abstract: Glycerin bleaching process is one of the vital stages in glycerin purification practice. In this stage, the color pigment presence in the crude glycerin is removed using adsorption method and undergoes the heating process. Controlling the glycerin temperature in a large system is a challenging task as sudden changes in the temperature and too long process time constant will degrade the quality of the bleached glycerin. The conventional method of controlling this kind of process is unable of giving satisfactory result. This paper presents the application of various Fuzzy Logic control structures to the process and its performances are compared with PID controller. The performances of the system are analyzed using single dynamic criteria. The effect of the increment of membership function and rules of are comparatively analyzed. The results revealed that the increment in the number of membership function could improve the process response. It also observed that the a!
pplication of Smith predictor could further improve the controller performance when controlling process with delay.
