Abstract: In wireless sensor networks, an important problem is to minimize energy consumption as the nodes are battery operated. Every node in the wireless sensor network overhears every data transmission and consumes more energy unnecessarily. Switching the nodes to the low power state is the key to maximize the energy efficiency. A node wakes up periodically during the packet advertisement to see if it has data to receive. When a node receives an advertised packet it checks whether it is the destination and if not , it switches to a low power state during data transmission and thus saves energy. DSR improves routing efficiency via overhearing. In the proposed mechanism, the sender can specify the desired level of overhearing for mobile nodes, making a practical balance between energy and routing performance. Simulation is performed using ns2 in which results would indicate that Randomized MOM is highly energy efficient when compared to no MOM and unconditional MOM mechanis!
